About Us

Team Baker is an  organization ( in the process of going non profit)  that is currently raising money to build a boundless playground in it's hometown, Opp, Alabama.
But also and not limited to helping families with equipment and needs for handicap children.  It all started off on May 13, 2008 when Baker Wyatt Mitchell was born in Dothan, Alabama with what the doctor called "floppy".  It was completely not what we expected, but we immediately transfered him from Dothan, AL to UAB hospital in Birmingham, AL, then  moved to Children's Hospital in Birmingham, AL within a few weeks.  At the age of 3 months, we went home with a trach, heater dome, oxygen, and feeding tube.  Only after a short 10 days, we were back and put on a vent.  During that stay, we were there until he was about 5 months of age at which we finally got a diagnosis.  It was X-Linked Myotubular Myopathy, which is a genetic disorder that affects the muscles in the body.  Now he will be 5 years old on May 13, 2013  and through the times that we have been through with him, it has gave us enough encourage me to start this organization.  We just want to help the families that have a difficult time providing the special things that their child needs due to finances or insurance.  We know how it is, we've been there and are still there, just want to make things better for the people who deserves it, the kids.

Thanks,
Derek Mitchell (Baker's Dad)
